Bridal FAQs

I already have my dress and my wedding isn’t for a while but I want to get things finished. Why can’t I start the alterations process now?

Our bodies change over time due to many different factors like stress, working out, and injuries just to name a few. To avoid any of those things being an obstacle in making sure your wedding look fits perfectly, we do not recommend beginning the alterations process sooner than 10 weeks prior to the wedding. In addition to the fit considerations, we strategically schedule all of our brides so that we leave space in the schedule to accommodate last minute changes that may unexpectedly arise.

How may fittings will I need?

Every situation is unique but typically 2-3 fittings are needed to complete your alterations. If your dress is very simple, it will likely be 2 fittings but if your dress is heavily adorned or isn’t fitting in areas that require it to be deconstructed more than the average, you may need more than 3 fittings. We will provide guidance on what you can expect at the time of your first fitting.

I anticipate my body changing before my wedding. How does this change the alterations process?

Please let us know if this is the case at the time of appointment scheduling. We will likely suggest a different timeframe for your alterations to make sure we get the best fit. We have often worked with brides on fitness journeys and new parents alike. We can customize the process as needed!

How soon do I need to book an appointment for alterations?

It is always a good idea to reach out as soon as you have purchased your dress to secure your appointment. We recommend starting the alterations process about 10 weeks prior to the wedding date to ensure the best fit.

I don’t know my schedule far in advance but want to book alterations for the months ahead. What should I do??

We can save availability for you in the week the first fitting is needed without a specific day or time. For these clients we touch base in the two week prior to the appointment to confirm the specifics.

I’m getting married in less than 10 weeks. Can you help me?

We do offer rush services for a fee subject to availability. Please contact us for more information and availability.

Can I bring someone with me to my fitting?

Absolutely! Our studio can accommodate up to three additional people.

.

Do you require a deposit for bridal alterations/when do I pay?

We require a 50% deposit for all bridal alterations that is due at the time of the first fitting. The remainder is due at the time of pick up. (all pricing is quoted in the first fitting or bridal consultation). If you have any questions about payments, please don't hesitate to ask. We’re happy to work with you on a plan that fit your needs.

My loved one wants to pay for my alterations but they won’t be coming to my appointment. What can I do?

We can invoice whomever will be covering the cost of your alterations. We kindly ask that you let us know ahead of time if this is the case and provide the necessary contact information so we may set up the invoice prior to your appointment. All bridal alterations must be paid in full before a dress may be picked up.

Tips and Tricks

Many brides ask how they can reduce cost when it comes to their wedding gown and I’m here to spill the tea.

For most clients, hemming is the most costly part of their alterations. Get really clear on what shoe heights you’re open to considering when you go dress shopping. Some designers offer an option to order your dress a few inches shorter. Your bridal stylist will be able to help you understand if this will keep you from needing a hem.

For all of my lace lovers out there - see if you are able to purchase your dress with the lace detached. Part of the reason lace hems are costly is because it takes a lot of time and attention to detail to remove the lace from your dress so that it can be shortened and reattached. Purchasing dress with the lace separated saves me a step and I pass that onto you in savings on your services.

Sizing - Too big is easier to work with than too small. Most styles that have a mesh top with corset details do not have extra fabric inside to let out. If we need to create more space in your top panels will need to be added or potentially a corset/lace up back insert. This may change the overall look of your dress so please consider this when talking through sizing with your bridal stylist.

Sample sale dresses - Do they really save you money? Short answer, yes. Long answer, you will likely need more alterations than the standard bride so please keep this in mind when you’re looking at styles that may be a few sizes too big. Ultimately sample sales and trunk shows can make dresses that would otherwise be out of budget affordable but keep in mind you may end up paying ~$1,000 in alterations to make it fit perfectly.
